  • On the short side
  • Gets repetitive to complete all, though unrequired, tasks

Mos Speedrun is a retro 8-bit homage to the early days of gaming and features smooth, classic platforming gameplay. In vein of the 8-bit presentation, the game features amazing chip-tune music and sound effects. The gameplay reflects Super Mario Bros. and the non-linear design of Metroid. There are 5 levels with 5 stages each, and each one becomes more complex and challenging.

To unlock levels, you must beat enough stages and accomplish tasks to earn badges. For each level there are four badges to obtain: one for beating the level, for collecting all coins, for beating the time-trial and one for finding a hidden skull. There are a certain number of required badges to unlock each level, but it is not necessary to acquire all badges. If, however, you are a completionist, revisiting levels to earn all badges can be repetitive at times, though the game always manages to be fun.

The only main flaw with the game is that it’s on the short side. However, this can be easily remedied by future app updates. As it is now, Mos Speedrun is worth the price and more; it features two control-styles and an amazing presentation of 8-bit glory.
